You are invited to "Divesting from the Algorithms: A #BlackDirectory Proto-Exhibition" on July 15th at the Hatchery. My name is Mo Wisdom and this event is a proof of concept for my IDS capstone project, that proposes new ways of engaging the internet through content curation and exhibition. Sign up for my newsletter to get notified about future exhibitions!
My research project aims to engage YouTube as a vast data source to find a representative sample of Black content creators to include in a digital exhibition and directory, The #BlackDirectory YouTube Index. I’m interested in how, as consumers of content, we might reorient videos from YouTube within new temporal and spatial configurations. By divesting from algorithmic recommendations systems, we can explore new, more critical and
communal relationships with digital content and content creators. The idea is to be able to walk through digital content in a physical space, giving audiences the opportunity to interact with online content in a more embodied way and learn about the conversations happening within the Black counter-public on YouTube.
Parking at the Hatchery is validated for up to 3 hours, and Emory shuttles A and B stop at Emory Point!
